praise for afro sport
“The forward by Joakim sums up the sentiment that traverses the pages of Afro Sport - 'The world is becoming more African'...and the growth of the African diaspora as engaged with through social media. The book is a broad church of dialogue and visuals that explodes your expectations of what to expect picking up a coffee table book on sport. What jumps out page after page is the perspective that is resolutely African, the framing and breadth of narrative from Juju to building basketball on the continent. There is a lot of joy, hope and resilience in the proud stance of the photographs of everyday people that are empowered by whichever beautiful game they love, through to some of the locals who became icons and heroes. Visually, the book is stunning and proudly references the vibrancy that is unique to the villages, towns and cities that span the continent.”
Harris Elliott, Le Tings & The Missing Thread
"Afro Sport, colourful, shiny, noisy but soulful. A slice of African sport with its true dazzle - unafraid, unapologetic, saying "I'm here" from football to footballers, from Didier Drogba to Siya Kolisi, from Olympic breakdancing Senegalese wrestling to the Berber origins of baseball, each page turned is an adventure. “
Shafiq Morton, Voice of the Cape Radio.
“Between Afrosurf and Afro Sport these are necessary books that archive our stories which can be seen in the years to come for the generations. and hopefully developed like any other sport globally”
Jomi Bello, WAF, Lagos
“I think it is an incredibly beautiful, energetic and necessary book celebrating and highlighting the contributions to sport made by the African diaspora globally. It brought me joy to receive it.”

"A beautiful book that is so visually stunning. I love the graphics, I can’t wait to get the time to properly read all the pieces."

This is such an amazing look at sport and culture through the African lens. So much creativity, passion and colour. Everything feels so alive. I love that it's not just a 'design' book too - there is a lot of thought and in depth info about how sport and African culture is intertwined. Love it.

This is a stunning book. The stories shared tell a personal history from many athletes. It's also the most visually hypnotic book I've ever bought. I love it.

What a book! I heard about it via MUNDIAL and bought it expecting it to have some cool visuals and that’s about it - but it’s got that and so much more. Aesthetically very pleasing to the eye but the detail included in the book is remarkable. Being a 2nd generation kid who’s never lived in Africa but has visited various North African countries as well as where my dad used to call home, it was incredible to read about the variety of sport across the continent as well as helping me reconnect to my forgotten roots. This is more than a standard coffee table book, but something which contains some unbelievable stories, good journalism, as well as tapping into the human element which underpins the vibrancy on the continent.
