A Nelson Mandela Change Maker Award!
We’ve been absolutely humbled. On Wednesday last week in Carlsbad California, our purpose to be a creative force for good in Africa, as evidenced in our partnership with Surfers Not Street Children (SNSC) was recognized with a Nelson Mandela Change Maker Award.
Nelson Mandela is the story of Africa on its best day. The values he stood for. The principles he demonstrated. The wisdom he shared.
He inspired everyone to contribute to the world in their own way to create a better world.
We believe in sharing the power of African surf culture with the world and remain steadfast in our mission to be a creative force for good in Africa. One of the ways we do this is by supporting organisations like Surfers Not Street Children. Royalties from our global best-selling book, Afrosurf go to SNSC to support the work they do. It’s also great to know that shining a light on African surf culture with Afrosurf has increased awareness and meaning for the work they do. Beyond that, we know it's also important for African surf culture to have its own brands, to communicate our own stories, in surf and beyond.
We would like to thank the House of Mandela, The Mandela Foundation and PTTOW! for the recognition. Truly humbled.
Tom Hewitt - Founder Surfers Not Street Children, Hardy McQueen - Culture and DEI, Mami Wata, Andy Davis - Chief Surf Officer, Mami Wata
Thanks also to you, our customers and supporters for helping us launch and build a global African surf brand that has purpose at its core. There’s a quote from Nelson Mandela that we often think of while we aim for this goal - “It always seems impossible until it's done”.
Most importantly, we want to thank Tom Hewitt and the SNSC team for the amazing work they do.
Let’s do more!
